Mitch Blake

AIA - Principal

Mitch Blake developed a love for nature growing up on the banks of the Snake River in Idaho. Working on the family farms instilled an intimate connection with the land and a reverence toward the bio-climatic environment.

After graduating from the University of Idaho in 1983, Mitch worked in Salt Lake City for several years gaining experience with concrete, masonry and steel.  Bringing this experience to Jackson Hole in 1987, Mitch found a wealth of new inspiration in the natural elements of Wyoming.

In 1996, Blake partnered with Tom Ward to create a symbiotic architectural practice dedicated to ecological principles and designing buildings that harmonize with their environment. Since its founding, Ward + Blake Architects has won many awards and been published in a number of magazines and books.

Mitch is motivated by the challenge of difficult sites and thoroughly enjoys the creative process of the architectural profession. Finding successful solutions that integrate a building with its natural and or built environment is always the goal. As well as following the principles of the AIA Framework for Design Excellence to create buildings that address a zero-carbon, equitable, resilient, and healthy built environment.

Mitch enjoys multiple sports such as skiing, rafting, water skiing, and baseball. He struggles to grow a summer garden at his high mountain altitude and enjoys working on cars, motors, and multiple other projects.
