Taking advantage of the landscape’s natural amphitheater shape, architects tucked bleachers into the sloping grade. The entry funnels fans into an enclosed staircase that dramatically opens at its base to reveal a home-plate view of the playing field, and the announcer’s booth, cleverly placed above the entry staircase, helps occlude views of the field from the street level approach while providing a wide-angle vantage for announcers. Durable, low-maintenance materials such as TREX decking, exposed concrete block, and metal roofs were selected for minimal construction and lifecycle costs as well as their ability to reflect the school’s colors. The built portions of the baseball facility include a public restroom, announcer’s booth, team dug outs and athletic equipment storage all complemented by an NCAA compliant field and integrated landscaping.
